When to call a Grout specialist
Properly installed tile and grout should allow for the normal expansion and contraction of tile flooring; however, sometimes the grout begins to crack and crumble.
Once the grout cracks for any reason, it’s time to repair broken grout before there is any damage to the surrounding tiles. While grout may crack from wear and tear, an uneven or weak subfloor may be causing the problem. If you need to repair grout numerous times on any one floor, ask an engineer to look into the underlying cause of the problem.
One of the most common causes for dirty, discolored grout lines and tile is due to cleaning the tile regularly. When you start mopping the floor, the dirty water from mop water is immediately soaked up by the porous grout. The more you mop your floor, the dirtier and darker your grout lines will become. The dirty water from your mop bucket is darkening your grout with every stroke of the mop.
This can be very frustrating because your floors and walls will look dirty, despite your many efforts to keep them clean. In addition, dirty grout and tile is a source of bacteria, mold, and mildew.
